Nonprofit Workshop: Communications and Uncovering Your Brand

Branding is a buzzword that sounds fancy but is actually quite simple. Your brand is the promise you make about who you are. Defining it is the first step to great marketing, fundraising, and grantwriting. Uncovering your brand is key to your communications strategy.

We know that there is one question that strikes fear into a nonprofit person’s heart: “What does your nonprofit do?”

We all know, of course, what we do. The problem is that the question often leads to a 5-minute long response as we attempt to explain every program and initiative we've ever undertaken. And who can blame us? This happens because we're doing great work. You, the expert in your organization, know all of it and are trying to get across as much information as possible. However, your message gets lost without one concise sentence about who you are.

By the end of this training, you will be able to clearly answer the question, “What does your nonprofit do?” You will have a story that represents your brand. With these cornerstones, you will be ready to communicate your way to raising more money and building your movement.
