Eloise Cobell, Blackfeet

The Sister Spirit award is given to Eloise Cobell in recognition of her historic landmark case on behalf of over 500,000 Indian landowners across the United States. Dr. Cobell’s steadfast determination led to the successful ruling in the Cobell v Salazar case, resulting in a $3.4 billion settlement. A strong business woman, Elouise recognized the mismanagement of federal trust accounts and took the government to court and won. Few cases in the history of the federal court system have given justice to our people; this is one of them.
